IPFS
In March 2025, Hippius launched its decentralized hosting with IPFS. IPFS serves as the base infrastructure layer that underpins our product, enabling decentralized storage and seamless integration with blockchain technology.
IPFS, as explained by Batiz-Benet (2014), is a decentralized, peer-to-peer file system designed to connect all computing devices through a unified method of storing and sharing files. It functions similarly to the web in some respects, but instead of relying on centralized servers, it distributes and retrieves content across a network of nodes. Data is shared in a versioned and distributed manner, similar to how a single Git repository works. IPFS is designed to be fault-tolerant, with no single point of failure, and nodes can interact without needing to trust one another.
IPFS plays a foundational role in advancing decentralization by distributing content across a network of participants rather than relying on centralized servers. This approach mitigates single points of failure, reduces dependency on corporate-controlled infrastructure, and enhances censorship resistance. By shifting control from centralized entities to a distributed network, IPFS empowers users to retain ownership over their data and participate directly in content hosting and delivery (Stiller et al., 2021, p.83).
